What can you expect during the course?
All training during the course will be done 'on the job'. Leconfield is a working property and the skills and techniques used will be explained and demonstrated, then carried out by the students under supervision. The tasks you will be taught are those actually carried out in the normal running of the property. By the end of the course students should be able to carry out routine/basic tasks and more skilled jobs with minimal supervision.
What to bring?
Please restrict luggage to one suitcase and a backpack. We do not recommend you wear your favourite jeans or clothes for day-to-day activities. We do have old clothes which you will have access to during your stay for free.
Water Bottle 600ml - this is to take on horseback
Hats - wide brim and or baseball cap
Raincoat and warm jacket are highly recommended
Riding Boots (Boots are available for hire - $10 charge with $5 refund at the end of the course) Please note: We do not allow boots with buckles, laces or runners.
Fishing gear for the fishing enthusiast
Snacks ie: Muesli Bars, Fruit, Lemonade, Chocolate, etc. Student accommodation contains basic amenities such as fridge (no freezer), kettle and microwave
No straight liquor or explicit drugs
Extra cash for supply runs as Leconfiled Station is one hour out of town
A USB stick to share photos with fellow students
No firearms permitted on the property
After work there's a nice fire and time to socialize with the other students and improve your whip cracking and lassoing skills. On the last Thursday nght we end the course reminiscing about the days spent, lessons learnt and fun that was had over the 11 days whilst sharing photo memories.
Although the course is basically a training course, we like to make the sessions as much fun as possible. Students who have already attended the course all agree that they have learned a lot about the land but also have had great fun. For anybody wanting a country holiday where they will be participating in the running of a grazing property, we can thoroughly recommend this school.
All students receive a certificate stating areas of training and general proficiency attained. We will also try to assist in the placement of students seeking employment.
